This is an undamaged French WW1, 22/31 time and percussion nose fuse that was used on the famous French Mle 1897, 75mm field gun which was the mainstay of the French Army throughout WW1. This is a fired fuse from a shrapnel projectile and was undoubtedly picked up by a soldier off the battlefield in WW1. The brass fuse is fitted to the top off a French 75mm shrapnel projectile and the fuse has cast into the top 22-31 Mle 97 12 – 16 ECP (Ecole Centrale de Pyrotechnie (Central School of Pyrotechnics) Bourges, France.)
