This is a mint British 25mm Aden Mark 5 (25x137) aircraft target practice (TP) round which was developed to replace the 30mm Aden canon used of the Harrier GR 5 aircraft. The new 25mm gun on paper outperformed the older 30mm cannon in weight, muzzle velocity and rate of fire. The rounds were link fed into the gun and it was developed in the 1990s. Due to severe development problems plaguing the ADEN 25, it was unable to meet its design weight target and had serious reliability issues. The project was finally cancelled in 1999. This is an excellent condition Aden 25mm target practice round which retains virtually all of its original green anodised finish to the steel cartridge case which is headstamped 007 BM (British Marco) 87, 1987 date). The brass screw in primer is stamped SF 082-87. The steel projectile has an iron driving band and retains most of its original light blue painted finish. The projectile is stencilled round its circumference TP BMO 12-88 (December 1988 date). The price includes U.K. delivery and no licence is required to possess this inert round in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. O 1625
