Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 75th (Stirlingshire) Regiment of Foot to form the Gordon Highlanders in 1881. The Regiment saw much action during the Napoleonic Wars and was awarded the Battle honour ‘Waterloo’. This is an original, India Pattern Tower Brown Bess flintlock musket to the 92nd Gordon Highlanders. It is 55” overall length with a 39” long round steel barrel with block foresight. The barrel has proof inspection marks. The barrel’s smooth bore has staining & residue consistent with age. Its lock plate is marked with Georgian King’s Crown above ‘GR’ (George Rex) together with inspection mark and ‘Tower’ across the tail. It has a military cock, Walnut full stock with, iron ramrod and regulation brass furniture. The wood is impressed with inspection marks and ‘92nd’ which is repeated on the butt plate tang to the 92nd Regiment of Foot to the 92nd Regt of Foot (Gordon Highlanders). The musket’s cocking and firing action works crisply. The Musket comes complete with an original period socket bayonet. The 17” triangular form blade has just staining consistent with age. The blade has a partially visible maker signature which appears to be ‘Heighington’ & inspection mark. The socket is marked ‘XVI’. The bayonet fits the musket. As is common the bayonet is without scabbard. The price for this historic piece to a prestigious Regiment includes UK delivery. N.B As an antique musket no licence is required to own this item in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display. Sn 21391:1
