An original early WW2 K98 rifle bayonet with later beautiful etching that makes this a collector’s piece in its own right. The 10" single edged fullered polished blade is marked by the manufacturer at the ricasso 'Elite Diamant’. The spine is dated ‘40’ (1940). The blade is numbered ‘1371’ and is beautifully etched on both sides with panels '5 SS Panzer Division- Wiking' and 'Miene Ehre Heist Treue’ together with Swastikas and SS Runes . The pommel is Waffenamt and is also engraved on one side with a panel containing ‘ SS Runes & Stylised Swastika Device’. The bayonet has undamaged grooved Bakelite grips. Its steel scabbard is dated (1936) together with manufacturer detail ‘S/245’ which is the Nazi wartime manufacturer code for 'J.Sch' (J. Schmidt, Riemberg). It is also numbered ‘7423b’.
