Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2870. A scarce English C. Maybury patent percussion four shot engraved Pepper-box revolver with a very fine nickel silver frame. Circa 1840. The 4 shot barrel group is approx 4 inches in length. Decorative engraving to the side plates and nickel silver back-strap. The side plate engraved C. Maybury Patent. Fitted with a top sliding safety and a ring trigger. Charles Maybury had a workshop in Birmingham at 34 New John Street from 1834 to 1837 and at another address in Birmingham from 1843 to 1886. Pepper-box revolvers were favoured by many people and especially gold prospectors during the California Gold Rush, for protection against rival prospectors, robbers, and of course the Indians. Although intended for civilian use, many military men made private purchases of pepper-box revolvers and carried them into battle as a second line of defence. The pistol approx 9 inches overall. In good condition. A very scarce and attractive item. Ref 2870. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom.
