This sword is very similar to other horse-mans or dragoons swords of the period and has an iron basket guard comprised of individual bars. (please see photos). Manufactured probably circa 1750. The blade is 32 inches long, has been polished during its life, The grip still retains its original sharkskin covered grip with original wire binding. Overall length is 37 inches. This and other similar types of horseman's or Dragoons basket hilt swords are known to have seen service during in Europe during the Napoleonic wars 1795-1815, as well as during the American Revolutionary Wars circa 1775- 1783.
