A fabulous cavalry sword of the Napoleonic period, this pattern sword was originally made for the tall and fierce Cuirassiers of Napoleon's Grand Armee, a very similar pattern cavalry sword was carried during the Peninsular campaigns of the 19th century and at the battle of Waterloo in June 1815. Complete in its original steel scabbard with two hanging rings. The hilt stamped with large numbers "784". The blade with various military markings on the back edge, the date unclear. ''Manufacture Imp d. Klingenthal .......'' ?. A very scarce sword. Blade length 39 inches. Overall length in scabbard 47 inches. Good condition. Ref 3342. The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815 between the French Army led by Napoleon Bonaparte and a coalition led by the Duke of Wellington for Great Britain, & Marshal Blücher of Germany. The decisive battle of its age, it concluded the Napoleonic wars that had raged for 23 years, it ended all French attempts to dominate Europe, and destroyed Napoleon's imperial power forever.
