The 7 inch blade with a rear point and heavily stamped with the date 1897 & the British Board of Ordnance broad arrow mark & the manufacturers name deeply impressed Richard Thomas Birmingham. Complete with its original wooden shaft. The complete axe is in very good condition. This axe would probably have been stored on board ship and would have been carried by a British naval seaman during boarding parties etc, Overall length including shaft is 16 inches. please see the engraving below which shows axes being used as weapons during a boarding party skirmish.
