Possibly a K98 Long Dress Bayonet
The text around the scorpion symbol on the blade says "PET-DAN KREBS SOLINGEN" i.e. it was made by Peter-Daniel Krebs in Solingen, Germany
The bayonet has a black metal scabbard and a canvas frog, which may have been added later
The total weight of all items is 564g (bayonet 338g, scabbard+frog 226g)
The total length of the sheathed bayonet is 40cm
The total length of the bayonet itself is 37cm (handle 12.5cm, blade 24.5cm)
The empty scabbard is 27cm long and approximately 3cm wide
The frog is approximately 20cm long
The following text has been written in pen on the rear of the canvas frog: "22311956 Crawford"
Alongside it is some official text which has been stamped onto the belt loop - it's hard to read but it includes "JHB"
The black parts of the handle appear to be made from Bakelite, and they are firmly attached with rivets
The bayonet blade appears to be undamaged but it would benefit from being properly cleaned and sharpened
There is some tarnishing on the metal parts of the handle but otherwise it's undamaged
There are a few scratches on the metal scabbard but in general it's in good condition, and the bayonet fits it perfectly
The canvas frog is slightly frayed but otherwise it's in good condition
The bayonet belonged to my late uncle and for the last 40+ years it has been wrapped in a cloth bag and stored in a cupboard in a smoke-free pet-free home
It can be collected from Roehampton London SW15, or we can arrange for it to be posted to you using a service of your choice (NB the selling price does not include postage)
