Create my profile now!This is a nice Land pattern or India pattern socket bayonet from circa 1800. It is marked to the flat of the blade with John Gill’ (a John Gill is recorded working with his father Thomas Gill in London 1807 "Sword Cutler & Gunmaker". 83 St. James’s St., London and John Gill also recorded as Birmingham 1805-1817) and a Broad Arrow over ‘W.D.’ Blade length 39 ¼ cm, 52 ¼ cm overall. The slot is slightly longer than the usual Land pattern, by around 4” to fit a musket with foresight closer to the muzzle. See Skennerton item B49 page 40 for similar and page 56 for makers marks.
