Description

INERT DEACTIVATED. The first British drill round formally approved for the Browning M2 .50 calibre machine gun and was designated ‘Cartridge S.A. Drill .50 inch Browning Mark I’ in 1950. Previous to this, the drill rounds were of American manufacture. The cartridge case was a standard British made .50 Browning with a blind primer pocket. The brass cartridge case was either tinned or chromed overall and had no cap, anvil or fire holes. The case had three vertical flutes painted red, as was the cap chamber. The bullet had gilding metal envelopes and rested on a wood distance piece. The nickel plated brass cartridge cases are headstamped K62 .50 Mk1 and the three flutes in the side of the cartridge and primer pocket retain their original red painted finish signifying a drill round. The cartridges come in their original cardboard box with a card segmentor separating the cartridges inside. The box has a grey printed label on round it and has printed in black 10 .50 BROWNING S.A. DRILL Mk CARTRIDGES. Also there is Manufactured at the Kynoch Factories of Imperial Metal Industries (Kynoch) Limited Witton Birmingham England. There is also a purple stamp K8 1 63 (Witton January 1963). The price includes UK delivery and no licence is required to possess inert rounds in the UK if retained as part of a collection or display.
