A very fine Starr Arms Company American Civil War era .44 Percussion 1858 Army Revolver Circa 1858-1863. The blued framed stamped STARR ARMS CO. NEW YORK on on side and on the other side of the frame STARR'S PATENT JAN 15,18566. The wood grips stamped with civil war period inspectors marks. (This revolver has the clearest US government inspectors marks to the grips that we have ever seen). Double and single action. Ebenezer Starr (1816-1899) who came from a family of sword-smiths designed 3 percussion pistols, the ·36 calibre self cocking or double action model, the ·44 self cocking model and the ·44 calibre single action or Model 1863 revolver. They were all made by the Starr Arms Co. at Yonkers, New York. The Starr Model 1858 revolvers were the third most widely used revolvers by the Union forces during the Civil War. Around 23,000 of these Model 1858 Army revolvers were manufactured in the late 1850s and early 1860s, most were sold the U.S. government. This is a very fine blued example of a double action Starr Army percussion revolver used during the American Civil War era. Circa 1861-1865. Good working action. Overall length 12 inches.
