The 436mm single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The blade is in excellent condition. The ricasso is marked with the pattern date 1907, below which is stamped Wilkinson Pall Mall. The obverse ricasso bears a bend test stamp. The lack of manufacture date, Royal cypher and inspection stamp is an interesting feature of this bayonet. It is possible that it was made for the export market as Wilkinson supplied several countries with this pattern bayonet. The press stud catch is in perfect working order. The pommel has a clearing hole which became a feature of the P1907 from 1916. The pommel is stamped with the number ‘659’. The grip scales are in good condition and are held firmly in place by two screws. The scabbard is in good condition with metalwork intact *stitching loose to the rear*. The throat of the locket is stamped with the number ‘309’ and inspection stamps. The correct Buff frog accompanies the scabbard.
See Skennerton page 187. This is an excellent example of an iconic WWI Enfield rifle bayonet, made by the Wilkinson Sword Company. The price includes U.K. delivery. BAYO 360.
